Let me be biased here. I like Maine Elima to be more of the Ada dela Cruz Look rather than the Ly Jonaitis Look. Maine has a closer facial feature to Ada, which is almost Barbie-like but she tends to style her hair more like Ly – wavy and voluminous. Nothing wrong with that because either straight or wavy hairstyle still works for Maine.
“It’s a privilege. It’s a special power. People listen to us. Children look up to us. I want to use this status that I enjoy advocating for more meaningful causes like women empowerment, accessible education, or in this case for World Vision, protection of children from sexual crimes,” Hirro added.
Over the years, the Press Presentation is a very crucial part of the Binibini competition as this is where the final top 15 girls are usually being selected by the panel of judges. I don’t know if this will still be true starting this year considering the organization’s prior announcement that they will put a meatier component on the communication skills of these ladies.
While we eagerly wait for these girls to strut their stuff later, pageant hopefuls are already keeping an eye on some early favorites. The dusky Ada de la Cruz dead ringer Charmain Elima, angelic opera singer Mariel de Leon, Miss World Philippines 2014 4th RU Rachel Peters and the stunning half Filipina model Sirene Sutton lead the pack of early favorites ahead of the presentation later on.
What used to be a homegrown competition has slowly become a steady force in attracting participants from all over the country. In fact, this modeling search has become a springboard for a handful of popular pageant figures we have in our country now. For example, Mr. Hannah Ecotourism 2015 Karan Singhdole went on to win our country’s first Man of the Year title last year and Miss Hannah Ecotourism Ambassador 2014 Sara Christine Bona was an official candidate of Binibining Pilipinas last year as well.
I have been very vocal about my support for my girls Mutya Datul, Nicole Schmitz, Ann Colis, Janine Tugonon, Janicel Lubina, Kris Janson, and Kylie Versoza. Some of these girls were not even my popular choices for the Miss Universe Philippines crown. However, you can never go wrong once you considered them for MUP because, by default, they are more than qualified for the minor crowns such as Supranational or Grand International.
Well, news flash – many beauty queens are actually forgettable because they failed to re-brand or repackage their selves to be more memorable. Others also intentionally stepped out of the limelight and hid behind the shadows of a domesticated life or a life of privacy.
Anyone who witnessed the exclusion, the un-placement, or the clapping of pageant powerhouses Venezuela and Philippines in the last six years of the Miss International editions cannot help but shake the thought that the Mikimoto Crown might be cursed.
I’m still in shock even if the Mindanao Tapestry Show in Davao was already concluded last night. If there was one description that could sum it all, it would be ‘world-class’. So here are my[…]
Scoring would look so random and slapdash. It would be like scoring a boxing bout. Might as well give the girls their boxing gloves and contain them in a boxing ring.
